Byrd Britt writes cozy mysteries with heart, humor, and just enough intrigue to keep readers turning pages late into the night. A native of Lumberton, North Carolina, she draws inspiration from small-town dynamics, close-knit communities, and the secrets that sometimes hide in plain sight. Before turning her focus to adult mystery fiction, Byrd authored four children’s books, creating imaginative stories filled with adventure and warmth. That love of storytelling eventually led her to explore the layered personalities and hidden tensions that make cozy mysteries so irresistible. Her professional life has always centered on education. Byrd began teaching elementary physical education in the 1980s, later transitioned into adult education in the business world, and eventually served as Director of Education for a California software company. Helping people learn and grow has been a constant theme—whether in a classroom, a corporate setting, or now through the characters she brings to life. In 2023, Byrd discovered pickleball and quickly fell in love with the sport. Today, she serves as the Pickleball Ambassador for Robeson County. The rhythm of paddles, friendly rivalries, competitive doubles matches, and the colorful personalities found on the court have proven to be perfect inspiration for fictional intrigue. She shares her home—and her writing chair—with four opinionated cats: Jack, Cricket, Sally, and Zeva. When she’s not plotting fictional twists, you can often find her on the pickleball court, notebook nearby, quietly observing. After all, in both life and fiction, the smallest details often reveal the biggest secrets.
