An avid reader, David Kempston grew up on the West Coast. After marrying his college sweetheart, he moved to the Midwest. He loves cold winters and runs outdoors all year round. Since graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992—Magna Cum Laude and Order of the Coif—he's spent over 33 years as a litigator, primarily handling workers' compensation claims. No stranger to the courtroom, David has tried over 485 workers' compensation cases. He's also litigated a variety of other civil cases. And he's argued in front of the Minnesota appellate courts about 35 times. David enjoys mentoring law students. Voted a "Super Lawyer" by his peers every year since 2000, he frequently lectures at legal seminars. He is a contributing author to the Minnesota Workers' Compensation Deskbook. He was named the 2017 Anoka County Lawyer of the year. And in 2020, he was named a Fellow of The College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers. And he served as an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas Law School (Minneapolis) from 2021 through 2025. David has written three books published through Amazon, "That's Why They Call it Practicing Law" (2017), "Lessons Learned on the Run" (2020), and "The Last Run" (2026). When not lawyering or writing, he likes to read, run, fish, and spend time with family—especially his seven grandchildren.
