Ellen Pober Rittberg is an award-winning journalist, humorous essayist, parenting author, public speaker, attorney and former caregiver to her mom. In Why is Grandma Naked? Caring for Your Aging Parent, she humorously shares how, after initially feeling clueless, she figured out techniques that worked such as becoming the Alpha Dog, knowing how and when to take away the car keys (“before you read about your parent in the local police blotter”), and dealing with aging parents’ alternate reality beliefs, (“just agree with them. It's way easier.") Before Covid, she lectured on cruise ships and she now zoom lectures. She has no hobbies to speak of, having recently abandoned birdwatching after missing one too many birds that everyone else saw and feeling like a failed naturalist. Ellen's first humorous self-help book, 35 Things Your Teen Won't Tell You, So I Will, was based on having three children in three years and surviving with her sanity largely intact. For thirteen years, she represented children in court and spoke with many experts. This did not, however, give her adequate insight into how sneaky some teens can be, and in the book, she describes how despite her thorough, best-laid plans, two of her children managed to throw a party while she was out of town. A humor essayist, her writing has been published in the NY Times, Reader's Digest, HuffPost, NY Daily News, Newsday and other large platforms.For several years, she hosted and produced an award-winning live cable television show, "The Changing Family."
