Eric William Cunningham is the author of Get Promoted: How Career Advancement Really Works, a guide that explains how promotion decisions are actually made inside organizations and how professionals can navigate their careers with greater clarity and intention. The book is published internationally and has been translated into multiple languages. He is a writer and public service professional with more than thirty years of experience across emergency management, government operations, and business. Over the course of his career he has worked in public, private, and nonprofit organizations, gaining a practical understanding of how decisions are made when responsibility, risk, and real-world constraints are involved. Eric has served on hiring and promotion panels and worked in roles spanning program management, federal grant administration, and organizational decision-making. Through these experiences he observed consistent patterns in how leaders evaluate candidates, manage risk, and make advancement decisions behind closed doors. He is currently developing two additional books that expand on the ideas introduced in Get Promoted. The second focuses on the practical execution of career advancement, while the third examines promotion decisions from the perspective of leadership and hiring panels. Eric lives in Washington State with his wife, Christine, and their two cats.
