I am a native Californian and a lifelong reader of mysteries, film noir, and speculative fiction. I was married to my high school sweetheart for nearly fifty-five years, and her memory continues to shape my work. My interest in storytelling began early, though I suspect I would have been a more attentive reader if Dick and Jane had been detectives—or perhaps a wizard and a witch. Over time, a love of reading grew into a love of writing, even if the process remains a familiar balance of frustration and reward. The Jonas Watcher series is influenced by the work of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett, blending classic noir structure with a lighter tone and a touch of humor. I describe my work as adventure mysteries—stories grounded in character, atmosphere, and the consequences of choice. I still find the idea of making up stories for a living appealing. I like to think that, in another time, I might have been a storyteller by firelight.
