I'm Gold Shibi, and Yummville was born at my dinner table. I'm a mother and an aunt, and I've spent a lot of time watching the children in my life, my kids, my nieces, my nephews, experience food. The questions they asked. The faces they made. The way they lit up when something surprised them, and the way they shut down when they felt pressured. What I noticed, over and over, was this: when children feel like they're in charge of the story, when learning feels like an adventure they're leading, they absorb everything. Taste Trail, the first book in the Tales from Yummville series, came to me over dinner one evening. My son and my niece were bantering about why strawberries tasted so different from lemonade. As I listened, they turned to me and asked why. And instead of giving a quick answer, I started to wonder. What if that question was the beginning of an adventure? What if food science was a world they could actually explore? With a little imagination and a lot of inspiration from my little humans, Yummville was born. Yummville is a magical world hidden inside their grandmother's cookbook, where Black siblings Ayo and Oma travel from one delicious discovery to the next, learning about taste buds, flavor keys, baking chemistry, and the real science hiding inside every bite. Not through rules or pressure, but through a story where children feel like they're right there, leading the way. I wrote this series for the children in my life.
