Born into a multi-generational family of coal miners and raised in the small Appalachian town of Kingwood, West Virginia, John’s story is rooted in hard work, resilience, and a deep respect for the people and places that shaped him. John is a graduate of The Kiski School in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania; the West Virginia University School of Engineering in Morgantown; and Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From the age of thirteen through forty, he worked in nearly every role within his family’s business, including a decade serving as company president. As a civil engineer, John has led and constructed thousands of public infrastructure, energy, natural gas, mining, and waste disposal projects across ten states along the East Coast. He has also founded four service-related companies spanning the environmental, transportation, natural gas, and coal industries. Throughout his career, John has served in multiple C-suite executive and executive advisory roles and has sat on the boards of more than a dozen companies nationwide. He currently serves as an advisory board member for TQG, Inc., a technology firm based in Palo Alto, California, and Qryptonic, LLC, a quantum computing cybersecurity firm headquartered in Miami, Florida. John also serves on the board of directors for the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) in Washington, DC, where he was President of the Contractors Division in 2017. In 2023, John published his first book, Appalachian Kid, a memoir that became an Amazon Best-Seller in multiple categories. Through his writing, John shares stories of faith, leadership, perseverance, and identity—aimed at encouraging readers to honor their roots while pursuing lives of integrity and impact. John is an active church member, lifelong learner, and mentor who believes in helping others build meaningful work and meaningful lives. He lives with his wife, Kyla, and their two sons, Jack and Anthony, and enjoys traveling, reading, biking, snow skiing, and building things.
