Lea O'Harra is the pen name I adopted for my so-called 'Inspector Inoue mystery series' which marked my first venture into crime fiction. This series is set in small-town Japan, with each book linked to a season, and includes 'Imperfect Strangers' (2015), 'Progeny' (2016), 'Lady First' (2017), and 'Falling Leaves' (2026). An American by birth, I have lived on Shikoku Island in Japan for the past forty years, working full-time for 36 years at a Japanese university. My husband is a Japanese orange grower, and we have three sons who consider themselves as Japanese. I believe my long residence in rural Japan has given me a unique insight into Japanese culture, and that my books are as much dissections of the dark underbelly of Japanese society as they are crime fiction novels. . In addition to the Inspector Inoue series, I have published two standalones: 'Dead Reckoning' (2022) set in small-town America, and 'Sayonara, My Sweet' (2025), set in Japan. I am beginning a new crime fiction series also set in Japan.
