Lisa Bitel studied at Harvard and University College, Dublin to become a scholar of medieval history and Celtic cultures. She settled in Los Angeles, where she teaches at the University of Southern California. She has written many scholarly books about medieval history and one book of translations (medieval Irish romances), but has always longed to write historical novels--and now she does.
