Dr. Mario DeSean Booker is a scholar-activist whose research exposes the intersection of technology, environmental racism, and community resistance. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, he brings both academic rigor and lived experience to his analysis of how algorithmic systems perpetuate racial inequality while communities organize for technological justice. Dr. Booker holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology with specialization in data forensics from the University of the Cumberlands, where his dissertation examined facial recognition acceptance in policing. His interdisciplinary background includes master's work in technology and innovation management with data science specialization, and dual bachelor's degrees in information systems engineering and cybersecurity. He is a professor at Purdue Global University and serves as adjunct and subject matter expert at universities across the United States, teaching network security, cloud computing, and data science. His scholarship directly serves community organizing efforts. Dr. Booker's research methodology prioritizes community partnership over academic extraction, working with environmental justice advocates in Memphis, digital sovereignty movements globally, and communities challenging harmful technology deployment. His published work includes analyses of digital redlining, cryptocurrency governance, ransomware policy, and blockchain healthcare applications. Beyond academia, Dr. Booker co-ministers at HOPE Outreach Ministries in Flint, where he combines spiritual leadership with community advocacy. He served on Flint's Community Advisory Task Force to the Police Department and ran for the school board, maintaining deep roots in local organizing while conducting international research. Dr. Booker earned a Doctorate of Divinity specializing in New Testament Gospels and holds multiple IT certifications. His approach integrates technical expertise with theological commitments to justice, producing scholarship that serves movement building rather than career advancement. He lives in Flint with his wife FaLessia, an accomplished editor and co-author, and their twin sons Jaiden and Jace. The family's commitment to community extends from Sunday dinners with his mother to collaborative research challenging technological oppression globally.
