One man can; Michael Ronson, the author who, in his own words “Bestrides the narrow worlds of science fiction and werewolf-based-erotica like a colossus.” However, Ronson was not always seen as a colossus. Born into a modest middle-class family as a baby, the infant Ronson had none of the awards, credited works or bodily functions he would become so lauded for. Spending the first two years of his life mastering oral communication, the alphabet and bipedal locomotion (all integral skills for science fiction authors) Ronson turned into a precocious child who quickly tired of the tawdry pursuits of infants and began looking towards the skies (or, when indoors, ceilings). Several years later Ronson started writing. A brief detour in the field of erotic fiction had proved fruitless and upsetting for all involved, but Ronson carried his love of prose and elaborate, sexual similes over to the world of science fiction. Ronson had found the love of his life. It was prescription painkillers. But selling science fiction stories was a good way to get the money for them, so Ronson began spinning what he called “fantastical tales of spaceships and aliens and whatever.” Although undeservedly overlooked in his own time, as well as in the past, he has built a steady and rabid following amongst his friends and immediate family, all of whom attest to the quality of his writing. He lives, to this day in an undisclosed location somewhere in the eastwest of Scotland where he pursues his twin passions of phrenology and collecting unlicensed firearms.
