Michael Rothfeld is an investigative reporter on the Metro Desk of The New York Times and co-author of a book, "The Fixers." He was previously an investigative reporter at The Wall Street Journal. At the Journal, Michael was a leader of the reporting team that won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in national reporting for coverage of hush money deals made on behalf of Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign, and the ensuing investigation of Mr. Trump's personal lawyer. That work was also awarded the Barlett & Steele Silver Award for investigative reporting in business in 2018. Michael and other Journal reporters won a George Polk Award for their coverage of insider trading in 2012. At the Los Angeles Times, Michael's stories on the abuse of government perks led to firings and resignations of cabinet members and state board members in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s administration. He has also reported for Newsday and The Philadelphia Inquirer, and was awarded the Pulitzer Traveling Fellowship at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in 1998. Michael grew up in New Jersey and lives in Brooklyn with his daughters.
