Sandra Franks is a writer and author whose work centers on memory, legacy, and the quiet forces that shape a life over time. She began her professional writing career as a publisher with one of the largest privately held publishing companies in the U.S., Agora, Inc., based in Baltimore, Maryland. Over a 28-year career, she wrote dozens of articles, white papers, and special reports, and authored two nonfiction books, Barbarians of Wealth and Barbarians of Oil. In 2015, Sandy stepped away from publishing — not to stop writing, but to write with greater intention. Her recent work includes The Search for Valentina Getsch, a memoir that explores family history, loss, and the enduring pull of unanswered questions. Across her books, Sandy is drawn to stories that unfold slowly — shaped by patience, reflection, and the belief that some truths take a lifetime to reveal. She is also the creator and host of the podcast Just One Good Idea, where she explores the moments — often small, overlooked, or uncertain — that quietly change the course of a life or career. Today, Sandy writes and mentors writers who feel called to tell the stories they’ve lived but haven’t yet put into words. Her work emphasizes craft, courage, and the steady discipline of seeing meaningful work through to completion. She believes the most powerful stories are not rushed — and that the ones worth telling tend to stay with us long after the final page.
