STEVE BURT's 2023 Maine gargouilles thriller, Protect the Queen, is the long-awaited sequel to 2019's blockbuster, The Bookseller's Daughter. Luna and her two friends now have three gargouille hatchlings to worry about, and it's only with the help of the humans--the bookseller, her daughter, her daughter's BFF, and three Wells, Maine cops--that they have a chance against the harsh Maine winter, arch-nemesis Faucon, and the king's assassins. Dr. Burt's 2021 collection, New England Seaside: Roadside, Graveside, Darkside, was named Best Young Adult Book at both the 2021 New England and 2021 Hollywood Book Festivals. This "greatest hits" collection gathers 20 of the best stories from Steve's 2004 Bram Stoker Award-winner Oddest Yet, his 2003 Bram Stoker Nominee/finalist Even Odder, and his award-winning Odd Lot and Wicked Odd, all four collections now out of print (as paperbacks, but still available as Kindles and Audibles). His 2019 thriller, The Bookseller's Daughter, about a 17-year-old and her mother partnering with a gargoyle in search of the gargoyle's sister's grave in Wells, Maine, won the 2019 New York Book Festival Grand Prize ($1500), which also named it Best Adult Fiction, The same book, a Y.A./Adult crossover, won a Mom's Choice Awards gold medal for Young Adults, and was runner-up for Best Y.A. at the 2019 New England Book Festival. Burt is no stranger to awards. His trilogy featuring the FreeKs psychic teen detectives (FreeK Camp, FreeK Show, FreeK Week) won 24 awards, including the 2015 Florida Book Festival Grand Prize ($1,000) and 4 Mom's Choice golds. The four (now out-of-print) weird tales collections mentioned above included a Benjamin Franklin Award silver medalist for mystery/suspense (Odd Lot), a Bram Stoker Award nominee (Even Odder), a Bram Stoker Award Winner (Oddest Yet), and an Independent Publisher Award finalist (Wicked Odd). In 2016-17, to please his grandchildren, Dr. Burt created the popular Dumb Jokes for Kids series (First Worst, Second Worst, Third Worst, and Fourth Worst Joke Books), which he replaced in 2022 with a new series: Dumb Jokes for Kids #1, Dumb Jokes for Kids #2, and Dumb Jokes for Kids #3. In 2022 he released Love Is a Four-Legged Word: Wit and Wisdom for Pet Lovers. His regional bestseller, A Christmas Dozen, was a 2000 Foreword Book of the Year Finalist and a 2001 Foreword Audio Book of the Year finalist. Now out of print, its stories appear in a 2021 collection, New England Christmas Sampler, which won Best Spiritual at the New England Book Festival. Most of his books are available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook formats. In the 1980s and 1990s the Rev. Dr. Burt wrote popular church leadership books and inspirational books.
