Suzanne Franco is a Johannesburg-based historical fiction author on a mission to resurrect the forgotten heroines of South Africa’s turbulent past. Drawing on decades of meticulous research, she brings to life the extraordinary true stories of brave women whose courage shaped a nation — yet whose names have been buried in the pages of history. Her debut novel, Exile Child, is a compassionate and historically accurate portrayal of Sarah Bartmann — the iconic Khoi-Khoi woman torn from her homeland, exploited across 19th-century Europe, and finally returned to South African soil in 2002. The book received exceptional reviews from major publications including The Sowetan, Cosmopolitan, City Press, and The Herald, and earned an official endorsement from The Thabo Mbeki Foundation. Her second novel, Soul Force, chronicles the remarkable life of Valliamma Munuswamy Mudaliar — a sixteen-year-old activist who dedicated her short life to Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement against racial oppression in South Africa. The book is endorsed by Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi and renowned peace activist, and has attracted international film interest from Los Angeles-based director Fabien Martorell. Suzanne has been featured on South African radio and television and is a regular guest speaker at government and cultural initiatives. She is currently completing the third book in her South African Women’s Series — a story of three young women imprisoned in British concentration camps during the Anglo-Boer War. “I believe people in today’s world will live in hope by recognising women who have sacrificed so much to have an impact on history, and therefore, on humanity.”
