One of my dearest book friends has been recommending this book to me ever since we first realized we both shared a love of Pam Godwin's writing. As is the case with all things so-many-books-so-little-time, I hadn't gotten around to reading this particular forbidden romance involving a seventeen-year-old piano prodigy and the lone scholar in a renowned academy and the brand-new head of the music department ten years her senior who becomes committed to teaching her a thing or two about discipline--of her instrument and her body. Dark Notes isn't my first teacher-student romance--nor, I highly suspect, will it be my last--but it is the first that goes beyond the usual innocent flirtations and flourishing infatuations that later become intriguing when identities are further revealed. From the get-go, Ivory Westbrook and Emeric Marceaux are more than aware of the position each plays in the other's life. But that's the thing about this novel--it's more than just about the main characters being student and teacher. This is a story about finding love and passion and fighting for it regardless of the consequences; it's about love and lust and everything else in between, of letting go and ultimately discovering your truest and home. Pam Godwin's exceptional prose is matched eloquently and deliciously well by Tad Branson and Ava Erickson. These two WERE Emeric and Ivory. Dark Notes was Godwin at her best and the best I've ever heard Branson and Erickson. Five-plus stars. ♥

F!!ck me but that was a seriously good story! If your even considering this one, stop now, and BUY THE DAMN BOOK! It had everything! It was dark and gritty and messed up. Omg the pain and heart wrenching brutality of life! Then giddy can't contain it joy and SERIOUS heat! Like HOT damn heat…if you have a convenient male around the house, your going to want to keep him handy(then tell him he's welcome from me since I convinced you to buy the book😉) The build up and character chemistry were out of this world!
This book was like a drug with Earth shattering highs and just, gut wrenching lows! I stayed up all night to finish it. The only problem I can see is the possibility for some serious book withdrawal once it's over. If your new to Pam Goodwin I suggest Sea of Ruin- might help take the edge off lol. I would also suggest Misbehaved by Charleigh Rose. It has a very similar basic plot and will be perfect if you just NEED more. Also anyone who has already read Misbehave - your going to LOVE this book.
If you only take a chance on one book this year, make it this one. The whole teacher student thing has never really been my jam. Also, I have noticed most of the dark romances that have high school in them are over-the-top ridiculous juvenile smut. This book cannot even be compared to those kinds of books. Just an FYI I'm 33 and I loved this story. I absolutely connected with both characters and found multiple things almost disturbingly relatable.
I can't recommend enough! The plot is A+, dual narration was stellar, sex was omfg hot 🔥 🫦‼️and you get a satisfactory HEA that wasn't stupidly obvious. Despite some intensely dark cringe triggerwarning plot points, I ended this book feeling great. Seriously, I'm like really happy right now! Just get the book already!! DO IT!!

This story was expertisly measured with just the right amount of all things I love in a book.

I loved the way the book reads alternating both characters POVs. The narrators were great they really made Ivory and Emeric come alive to me.I also liked the fact that the writer didn’t make anything seem to far fetched as a lot of fiction is written these days to be so damn unbelievably ridiculous it ruins the book all together.Also things got to the point and didn’t linger on when a issue or threat arises it’s quicky taken care of as aposed to dragging it out and getting frustrating.The sex scenes were hot and exciting not stupid repetitive bullshit as in okay we already seen them bang that way for the 100000 time it’s never got old , there was a good mixture of everything and again believable as in I could actually picture it as something myself in real life could or would do instead of being stupid ,yeah right are you fucking kidding me moments. The happy ending was believable and honest. All though I would love to see more of Emeric and Ivory’s story , The author leaves us pleasantly satisfied. LOVED IT! I’d read it again in a heart beat.
