Deception

After fleeing a scary, toxic relationship, Kira Jones has spent what feels like forever piecing her life back together. She left her home state Florida for a fresh start in Virginia, where she and her bestie Julie have built a thriving real estate business. She’s finally seeing a therapist to untangle all the messy trauma and her complicated love life. Just when she's starting to feel like maybe, just maybe, she can breathe easy again... weird stuff starts happening. Creepy messages from nowhere. Things moved around in her apartment and the unsettling feeling that someone is watching her.

Then, Damien shows up out of nowhere. College sweetheart turned suffocating boyfriend who couldn't stand letting her have any space. His sudden reappearance seems way too calculated for comfort, making Kira question if his "I've changed" act is total BS. Meanwhile, Julie drops another bomb that Walter, Kira's abusive ex-husband, just got out of prison and might be itching for payback. As the freaky incidents get worse, Kira can't help wondering if he's behind it all.

Kira's done being a victim and is determined to figure out whether someone from her past is hunting her down or if she's being manipulated in some twisted mind game. With Julie in her corner, she's torn between absolute terror and these frustratingly complicated feelings she can't shake. But as the danger closes in, one question keeps her up at night—who is really after her, and how far will they go to drag her back into the nightmare she fought so hard to escape?

Need a part 2 IMMEDIATELY

The story was perfectly paced and I had my suspicions about the culprit reveal but that ending requires a part 2 for sure or I’m gonna need my own therapist lol

Loved this book

This book was great. I got both the audio and physical copy because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. This is definitely one of those reads I see myself coming back to as time goes on. The twist and turns were great like I was watching a movie in my head. A 10/10 for me.

Loved the turn of events!

Usually, I can figure out who, what, and how, but the author did make a switch-up. Although I was right, it definitely went left. I think I’ll read and listen to more of the author because this has a good storyline, even though Kira worked my nerves throughout!

Decent read, good narration!

I have mixed feelings about this read. There were things that I really enjoyed, like the suspense during the first few chapters. I literally felt like I was in the house with the FMC. 

I immersed read this with both the physical copy and audiobook. The narrator (Sheena Jones) did an amazing job.

I loved the short chapters and the initial intense story building. 

But then I felt like I was reading a book I'd already read before. I predicted every twist except the final one. Typically, my predicting the twist wouldn’t affect my overall rating, but I disliked the last twist so much that I ended up deducting a star because of it. 

Also, this book was full of the same old tropes that I’m tired of reading. 

The FMC who makes dumb decisions repeatedly. 

The illiterate police officer, who can’t solve a crime and could not care less about a victim. 

Every male character is violent and/or a cheater. 

When you have all the evidence but question if what’s occurring is really happening. 

It may sound like I hate the book, but that’s not the case. I started out loving it and ended up not loving it so much. I’m sort of stuck in the middle.
