God’s Junk Drawer is a mind-bending tale of mystery and adventure set at the dawn of time.

Welcome to the Valley …

Forty years ago, the Gather family—James, his daughter Beau, and his son Billy—vanished during a whitewater rafting trip and were presumed dead.

Five years later, Billy reappeared on the far side of the world, telling an impossible tale of a primordial valley populated by dinosaurs, aliens, Neanderthals, and androids. Little Billy became the punchline of so very many jokes, until he finally faded from the public eye.

Now, a group of graduate astronomy students follow their professor, Noah Barnes, up a mountain for what they believe is a simple stargazing trip. But they’re about to travel a lot farther than they planned …

Noah—the now grown Billy Gather—has finally figured out how to get back to the Valley. Accidentally bringing his students along with him, he’s confident he can get everyone back home, safe and sound.

But the Valley is a puzzle—one it turns out Noah hasn’t figured out—and they’ll need to solve it together if there’s any chance of making it out alive.

Pulling from Earth’s past, future, and beyond, Peter Clines has created a complex, dangerous world, navigated by a dynamic ensemble cast, and a story that is thrilling as it is funny and heartfelt.

Every time Clines drops another story I just know I’m in for a treat even if the premise doesn’t immediately interest me. I’m not generally fond of anything prehistoric related but the more I listened the more invested I became. The character writing is just leagues better than any other author I’ve come across and it’s not even close. It’s a rare talent to be able to bring to life so many different character personalities and articulate how they process the same situation in drastically different yet painfully realistic and understandable ways.

On the flip side, Ray Porter absolutely kills the narration as always, the personality oozes from every character and the banter always feels natural and organic. Something I’ve come to appreciate after years of listening to audiobooks is the value of a quality narrator and Ray is at the top of my list alongside R.C. Bray. The range is crazy and it absolutely elevates this story for me, the Clines/Porter dynamic is what got me into audiobooks in the first place with 14 and the terminus series and I hope I get to enjoy many more books in the following years with the two.

Also, one of my other favorite things that always gets me so psyched is the subtle references to other works. When I caught that Paradox Bound reference (another one of my favorites) in the early chapters I was absolutely floored, the interconnections between the seemingly standalone books leaves just enough room for rampant speculation that just keeps me coming back to old titles looking for more clues over and over again. Loved the story, please keep up the fantastic work!

Reminds me why Peter Clines has been my favorite author for years

As always, loved Ray Porter and his voice, read me a shampoo bottle and I'm there.. But this might be one of my favorite FROM Clines and I thought the Threshold series had a firm hold on my heart and let's not forget Paradox Bound.. I'm actually listening to this for a second time right now. I cried, I screamed, I could not get enough..

I LOVED it

It's a great take on
Land of the lost while being a fun sci fi mystery. it's like land of the lostl in the same way 14 was like scooby doo. So not actually the same, but similar vibes, with a deeper plot.

New favorite Peter Clines

Clines' worlds are magical. They suck you in and transport you to a place you wish you could live in. Meet characters you want to know personally and call friend. Thank you, Peter, for another magical place I can visit time and time again.

what a universe to experience!

The blend of so many elements in one book is wild. Between the character development, the entire story arc, and the ending... I have every reason to re-listen to it again in the near future.

Wild
