The second book in the epic Grimnir Chronicles fantasy series, inspired by Scandinavian folklore, The Witcher, and Dungeons & Dragons!

Avskild has fallen back to rejoin the rest of Mennesvarld. The shield protecting them is gone, leaving them exposed to threats beyond anything they've imagined.

In order to survive, they must become stronger, and the only way to do that is to pass additional trials. The Grimnirs of old accomplished this by taking the portals across the island to other regions where they could find more trials like the entrance to Vanalf. This takes the team to Kelig, Bjorn's homeland, a place completely overrun and dominated by monsters. But even worse, it's haunted by his past.

The epic Grimnir Chronicles series continues, with a suitably epic multi-cast audiobook!

I found this a compelling follow-up to the underrated 1st installment. Expanding on the foundations of the lore that were laid in book 1 while still blending in action this story is an attention getter. I’m enjoying the Scandinavian influence and find it refreshing compared to the more traditional influence I’m used to reading/listening to!

Excellent listen

Just as great as the first book! The only thing that threw me off, which was present in book 1, is the different actors reading each chapter on their own, making them voice out each character in that chapter. Having a dedicated VA to do all of the narrating, then having the character specific VA speak their lines, then back to narrator afterwards would be a little more immersive. At least to me. It’s funny listening to Bjorns gruff VA trying to voice out the ladies, especially in tense moments when they might have different inflections to their voices based on the situation.
Having said that, every VA did a great job! Still finished the book and am looking forward to book 3!

Great story! Immersion slightly off due to VA but not enough to deter you away.
