Synthesis

Once again necessity is the Mother of invention. An excellent synthesis/distillation of: The Toyota Way, Lean Startup, and Scrum. Provides an algorithm employees can embrace/execute in response to cheerleading executives hounding the them to “Go Fast”.

The Lean manufacturing philosophy coming back

I personally know Jon and did work with him while he worked on the insurance sector. What you see in this book is the general approach to problem solving based on first principles, the lean manufacturing philosophy and just in time.

I think the principles discussed here are generally applicable and are real. I have seen before while working with Jon.

I have a few memories of things that have been discussed by weeks with other members of the company being solved in a matter of minutes in a brief discussion with Jon. Most of the time things are not solved because we don’t question the “limitations”.

The book being easy to read is not a fault is by design. Jon has the amazing gift of making complex things simple and that shows in the book. I really recommend it.

A great listen to remind yourself not to be comfortable with the status quo.

I want to hear more about how the author had to quit working with Elon due to experiencing poor mental health. Would liked to hear the author explain why that was the case with Elon and learned how to apply the algorithm without the negative mental health side effects.
