Imagine a world where....

Everything you ate was monitored by the government.

Every step you took was counted.

Your children were weighed every day at school.

Neighbours reported on neighbours and no one was safe from judgement.

Sugar was illegal, and baking was a crime.

Imagine if that world was here.... What would you do?

Toe the line or fight for your freedom....

I try to limit my intake but that’s my business. If the government were to get involved? I’d have issues, too!

This is a timely story about what we’re willing to give up, and what we’re willing to do to when backed up against the wall.

I live for sugar!

Intriguing premise that kept me enthralled too the finish. Highly recommend! Well done Claire Wade!

Great Book

The concept is so interesting and I love a good dystopian book but I couldn't make it past the immediate whimpering, helpless woman trope, who needs her husband to make her life better. Personal preference and again, please keep in mind that I did not finish the whole book but as far as I got, I found that the story execution missed its mark and the writing style read more YA. (Sorry Claire Wade for the negative review!!)

Did (could) not finish

I realized about 30 minutes in that I was still listening to a trip to the grocery store, and I was not bored. Unfortunately, the author spends so much time describing all the restrictions (in scene, and done so well) that character development (other than the MC) and plot suffers.

The audio performance was good but Oliva was so often terrified, anxious, nervous, etc. that the timorous, fear-filled narration was tiresome and unpleasant. Wish the audio performer had toned it down.

If you are a fan of dystopias, you might give it a go. Otherwise, skip it.

More about the idea...
