Rodric Vale spent sixty years as the world's greatest hero. He answered every summons, fought every war, saved every kingdom that asked. He reached Level 100—the only person ever to do so—and became a legend.

And on his deathbed, surrounded by kings and nobles who came to pay respects to their greatest weapon, he realized he'd wasted his entire life serving other people's causes.

He never explored the places he wanted to see. Never took a job just because it sounded fun. Never told the guilds and crowns to solve their own problems. He was everyone's sword, and he died tired.

Then he wakes up at the summoning circle. Young again. Level 1 again.

This time? He's not being anyone's hero. He's going to take the quests that interest him. See the places he wants to see. Get strong on his own terms. And when the kingdoms come calling for their legendary summoned savior, he's going to tell them to handle it themselves.

started strong, was impressed by his honesty and bluntness. but then he started being wishy washy with his conviction. he grew as a character then regressed. he has a martyr complex, really annoying.

author, we get it. he has 60 years of experience, you don't have to repeat it over and over.

None of the characters feel like they have much of a personality. Things just seemed to happen with minimal agency from the MC. The fighting was bland and didn't feel like the MC displayed immense skill and experience so much as just being told about it.

The narrator was decent but could have used a better editor to get rid of some background noises.

Characters are uninteresting

I kind of just skimmed the summary but to me it sounded like it would be about a guy who spent one life serving other peoples needs instead of his own then at the moment of his death he gets summoned to a different world to have a second chance. Instead you find out that this world was the place he was summoned to in the first place and he lives his life as stated above then just regresses back to the moment he was summoned after he dies. That’s fine I like regressor stories too. However, the characters in this story are so one dimensional it actually hurt to listen to. There are sooooo many conversations that assume the format of *MC does something with skill *some character sees him perform said act and says something along the lines of “You did that like you’ve done it before, like you’ve been doing it for years.” Nobody just says “Wow, that was skillfully done. Someone must have trained you well.” It happened so often that I had to start skipping those parts when I realized ANOTHER one was coming. Additionally, anytime someone has a genuine grievance with the MCs behavior he rarely takes a second to reflect on their words he just deflects or reframes his actions as less problematic than they are. Example: “You were reckless doing XYZ.” Response:”I was efficient.” This too happens so often in this book I don’t really understand why I kept listening.

MC was all about just being his own man and doing his own thing, but what’s the first thing he does when a crisis pops up? Back to the same old same old. Even after some folks mention he needs to accept more help from his team he keeps trying to do it alone. There’s not much growth from the other characters either. The narrator did a good enough job, but when you have this kind of story to work with you can’t do much to fix it.

Pretty terrible
