The Last Post—the final book in the Knocknashee Series

As the dark clouds of war finally begin to break, Grace Fitzgerald and Richard Lewis glimpse the possibility of a future together after years of turmoil. Their hard-won love has withstood so much already.

Now, as the Allies launch their final assault on the European continent—determined to rid the world of Nazi terror at whatever cost—Grace must say goodbye once again. Richard has a dual mission: to witness and report on the invasion that will decide the world’s fate, and to fulfil a promise to find someone who vanished without a trace.

But in Richard's absence, Grace faces her own reckoning. Drawn back to an old adversary, she must fight one final battle. Will their love survive not just the war, but the ghosts of their past?

What a beautiful story. I will miss Grace and Richard. Ever character was worth getting to know. All these storylines intermingle and it was just beautiful writing.

Loved this series.

I fully enjoyed this book and love how all the lives I’ve read about have been updated and tied up nicely!

Wonderful ending! I loved the whole series!

I so loved catching up with all the characters in this series! The story was very well written (of COURSE it was — it’s by Jean Grainger!) and many questions left from the previous books were finally answered.

Despite the horrors of WWII, most characters came home and picked up the threads of their lives, with the exception of one. One line used to describe war really struck me as true, “Old men argue, young men die.” Applicable even today. There were SO MANY HEROES of WWII; many military, but also so many civilians who risked their lives to help others attempting to do the right thing. Ms. Grainger makes her readers feel as if there are right there, in the middle of everything.

Though not easy given the circumstances, so many of the characters in this lovely series managed to find last happiness. (One spoiler alert: what happens to Cannon Rafferty — it could not have been more perfect for a truly despicable, rotten person — he got exactly what he so richly deserved)!

While I am so sad to say goodbye to this series, I am also very much looking forward to Ms. Grainger’s next book, “If Walls Could Talk” (I HOPE Siobhan Waring will be narrating the book)!

WONDERFUL WRAP-UP TO A WONDERFUL SERIES!

I mostly loved the way this series intertwined storylines and this book tied the major storylines up nicely - and unexpectedly, in some cases. It was not a sickening sweet, happily-ever-after for everyone. Buy it rarely ever is; especially not in wartime,

A fitting end to a wonderful series
