Albert never expected to see the end of the world, let alone survive it.

Now he’s the last stubborn old man in a quiet Australian town, keeping himself—and his dog, Winnie—alive with equal parts routine, grumbling, and sheer spite. He scavenges in the mornings, locks the doors at night, and tells himself he’s perfectly fine with being the last one left.

Then he finds Matilda.

She’s seven years old, stuck up a tree with a horde of zombies milling below and an attitude far too big for her size. Against his better judgement (and Winnie’s very vocal sigh), Albert helps her down. From that moment, life gets considerably louder.

Matilda is bossy, reckless, and endlessly curious about things Albert would rather not talk about. But between her chatter, Winnie’s judgmental stares, and the chaos that follows them around town, Albert starts to discover something unexpected: he doesn’t actually mind surviving anymore.

Because sometimes, the end of the world isn’t the end of everything—it’s just the start of a very peculiar sort of family.

a good tale of survival, loneliness and humanity.

virtual voice. you can tale it's fake when there's a too long pause in a sentence and words that should flow together. Also, a human would say thirty eight caliber, not point 38 or point 22. it's irritating.

Great storytelling

This was a great listen! The story is sweet and does not need gore to be a great zombie story!

Good short story

This is the first virtual voice story I have enjoyed. Very good narration. A post apocalyptic story focusing on what it means to be human. Engaging characters that you like and cheer for. A satisfying ending with hope for the future.
