Sometimes, it’s best to mind your own business. Felix Eastwood is your average guy, except for the fact that he can see the spirits of the dead. Lilith Lavelle is a fraudulent psychic, plying her trade on social media. When Felix stumbles across an advertisement for Lilith Lavelle’s Psychic Cleansing Services, he hires her under the pretense that his family is being haunted, hoping to expose her as a scam artist. By trying to play the hero, Felix puts his family in grave danger. In the aftermath of Lilith’s visit, Felix finds himself haunted for real by something claiming to be his dead wife; something that is out for blood.

The problem is, Felix invited it in. And it doesn’t want to leave.

I love stuff about demons/hauntings but it can be hard to find new books that have a fresh take on that sort of thing—I’m not into extreme horror, but I do like there to be some genuine stakes/scares. And I really enjoyed the book; hadn’t been on my radar so when I stumbled across it I wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea? But I thought it was a unique, spooky listen, absolutely worth a credit imo.

Slight spoiler:

Very happy that the dog didn’t die because that would have been an instant dnf and I was especially worried considering the title of at least of the chapters (also grateful that some of the other subject matter that I’m uncomfortable with wasn’t depicted in a more graphic way)

Felix Eastwood intends to uncover a fraudulent psychic but instead he starts a chain of events that endangers his entire family. Excellent writing that drew the characters and set the scenes. The narration by Kevin E Green made the story seem so realistic that I’m looking over my shoulder right now. I’m glad I listened to Sarah Jules’ book in the daytime.

This was, without a doubt a top notch book.

The story of Felix, Asher and Eli completely tugged at my heart strings. Then it completely ripped them out while laughing at me from the corner.

This is such a great paced, superbly written book. It shows how sometimes, grief is never ending, when a loss affects you to the core of your being, it stays. Ever slightly changing its presence yet the familiarity lingers, always. How the power of suggestion and possibilities of belief has the ability to change the perception of what you thought was impossible.

Sarah Jules beautifully exposes the type of raw, guttural need to protect those that you love with every fiber of your being, no matter the outcome. That, along with the distressing awareness of self preservation. With its perplexing unspoken knowledge that you’re more than likely to just freeze, cowering in unwavering terror, not doing a damn thing. While you witness with agony, your chance of saving and it falling just out of your grasp.

This book genuinely creeped me out. Made me want to sleep with a nightlight and adopt a dog asap. Specks is a very, very good boy.

It’s going to keep me up tonite, laughing at me from the corner of my room.

Narrator was pretty good changing voices of the characters. He did the evil voice a little too well. Creepy. Nice back story to tie it all in. The only annoying thing was the boy was 12 but the voice, behaviors, and actions were like he was 5-6, it didn’t match. Otherwise, great book, worth the credit.
