It's Greg's birthday. His 30th birthday - the birthday that will determine the rest of his life. At midnight, there is the chance Greg will simply cease to exist. With that in mind, he has hired Joe, an Ephemera, to accompany him on what might be his last day on earth. What starts as a rented relationship soon becomes more complicated. Is it possible to fall in love in less than 24 hours? Is there a point if one of them might not be alive at midnight? Greg can only be certain of one thing: The clock is ticking.

I loved Greg. I felt like I knew him. I was annoyed with his bad qualities and charmed by his quirks and quips. I cared about Greg and was genuinely distressed with how his 30th birthday would turn out. There were answers I wanted that I didn’t get, but I guess that’s life. There were other answers that I did get that maybe I didn’t want because I’m conditioned to wanting things to be beautiful and complete. Read this book, you won’t regret it.

Beautiful, somber, provoking

Turning 30 is hard this story expands on that
Set in the future the read is Captivating. The author has added in bits and pieces of today’s time along with futuristic times just enough.
I enjoyed the Narration, the pause, the sadness and the hopefulness

Turning 30

Anyone who is approaching 30, recently turned 30, or has ever had passing fears about being 30+ should give this a listen. This novella artfully uses its futuristic, alternate reality framework to analyze the very real fears of aging, loss, heartbreak, stagnation, and never getting to become the person you want to be. The story is intimate and relatable, funny and heartbreaking, confronting and comforting. I recommend it for anyone who likes stories about what it means to be human--and all the feels that come with that.

Never been so pleased to ponder turning 30

Although set in a wonderfully unique scifi setting; the story is grounded, the characters are relatable and Clint hits on several topics relevant to both the world he created and ours. Also, that ending (chefs kiss)!

Extremely satisfying listen

I absolutely loved this novella! Following someone around on his potentially last day alive, I loved how much emotion and existential dread was packed into a short amount of pages. Loved loved loved.

Sobbing (in a good way)
