Young Victor Carl is a fool for love and money, but he's not a blind fool. When Victor is propositioned by the woman of his dreams, he knows it's too good to be true. She offers him the perfect job, a prosperous future, and, best of all, when her tongue is in his mouth, she tastes like strawberries. But it isn't long before Victor realizes that to keep these prizes, he must keep his client - currently in the clink for murder - from spilling the truth about what really happened the night of the killing.

Is Victor ready to be bought? Hell yes. But not until he learns the truth. Someone is being protected, and Victor intends to find out who's worth all the fuss. Because Victor Carl is willing to sell his soul, sure, especially for a bite of strawberry, but only if the price is right.

As I have said before, Mr. Lashner deserves a wider audience. Luke Daniels already has a wide audience. The two make a good team. This is a novella, which will seem short for an Audible listener who is accustomed to regular-length novels. However, it is worth either the money or the credit. Victor Carl is a sad-sack guy, who flirts with unethical but potentially wildly profitable behavior, including the woman of his dreams, a job at a prestigious firm, increased money, and so forth. It might ruin the ending for you, but suffice it to say that Victor proves himself to be an ethical guy in the end. There is wit in the writing and a solid delivery of the plot and the humor by Mr. Daniels. The plot is actually fairly complicated for a novella, and there were moments near the end at which I got a bit confused about who did what to whom, and where, and why, and when, etc. That, however, is nit-picking, when I consider the fact that I am now getting to know a very interesting hero, and I am now eagerly anticipating hearing him attack another complicated legal case. You won't be disappointed here in spite of the brevity: that is the sole of wit, as you know. Have fun! There are many, many books about which one cannot begin to say that, and yet some of them are very popular, indeed. I will mention no names.

If you like to read for fun, this is for you.

I enjoyed this short listen. It's written in a potboiler manner that I found rather fun. Narrator does a very good job.

This fun novella about Philadelphia attorney Victor Carl is not technically part of William Lashner's Victor Carl series, but in just over two hours this is a very delightful short. A few hours ago I wrote a one star review of Lashner's recently released audiobook The Four-Night Run saying that, "William Lashner is much better than this!". This perfect little novella shows just how good Lashner can be. A Bite of Strawberry is a truly wonderful story. The narration by Luke Daniels is as good as the story.

I highly recommend this fun legal thriller.

You are going to love this novella!

OMG, what a delight. I loved everything about this novella, from the plot, characters, dialogue,(especially the sarcasm) to the narration. The narrator did one hell of a job. Mr Lashner is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

It's lib balm.
