A tradesman is set alight in his vehicle on an isolated road. His daughter is missing. And time is running out.

DI Fiona Williams is a driven detective juggling work with a family crisis and growing suspicions about her new boss. Her plan to take a break is shattered when she comes across a burning van while driving home late after visiting her father in hospital. It’s too late to help the driver engulfed in flames, still clutching the steering wheel. In a nearby car, the driver is dead, and his hysterical passenger insists she saw nothing before the van exploded.
Fiona regrets delaying interviewing her when it’s confirmed the van driver had been murdered prior to his van being set alight and no one can find his teenage daughter. Doubly so when the witness is found strangled.
There is nothing to explain why the well-liked, quiet tradesman was murdered. It’s unclear whether the other car was directly involved or unlucky. Whether his daughter has been taken or has gone into hiding is anyone’s guess.
Delving into their recent past in search of answers, Fiona is drawn into a web of powerful men determined to keep their deadly games secret. Her quest to uncover the truth and find the girl puts her at risk of sharing the same fate.

The robotic reading was painful. The story wasn't great either, very flat. It took all my effort to make it to the end.

Terrible virtual voice narration

The virtual narration is excruciating. No inflection, no attempt at various voices for characters, monotonous. Not worth the listen, unfortunate because the storyline wasn’t bad.
