After losing her husband and while searching for purpose, Clara Benton agrees to escort a group of orphans west, to help them find their forever homes. But when a fierce blizzard strands them in the Colorado mountains, their only refuge lies with a rugged, solitary rancher, Matthew, whose guarded heart is as cold as the winter snow.

Matt Thompson has long buried the joy of Christmas under the weight of his sister’s death. The rancher’s world is one of routine and seclusion, until a spirited widow and a group of children find shelter on his ranch. With their warmth and courage beginning to crack the walls around his heart, he is soon to be reminded just how dangerous hope can be.

As snow blankets the mountains and Christmas draws near, Clara and Matt must face loss and lingering grief. Yet when a dangerous enemy emerges, determined to settle an old score and threaten the ranch and the children, they must find the strength to stand together. In doing so, they may discover a love strong enough to heal them both.

It was free but not worth the time. I skipped through chapters just to see how it ended. This story may have been written by a real human but combined with virtual voice it screamed “written by AI!” I don’t mind sappy predictable stories, however this story does not seem to have been proofread by the author or an editor. For example, characters use the word lovely in every sentence for a whole paragraph and never again after that. There was no character development and the plot seemed to be added to because they needed more words. It claims to be wholesome but out of nowhere wholesome characters use God’s name in vain.
Audible may be trying to encourage new writers but we should be warned if it is one of those books written with AI not human understanding. If the author is real, please spend some time proofreading your work.
