In the middle of the night, a hooded stranger arrives on Jason's doorstep begging for help, with a terrifying assassin close on their heels. The stranger is a witch named Leslie Toussaint, and they need Jason's detective skills to find out who sent the assassin.

Leslie is a historian, and they may have stumbled upon a great secret of the past. A secret that someone wants to keep hidden at all costs.

Silvana sees this as an opportunity. A historian could help her finally uncover her own past, and she will take any risk to discover the truth. But will she like what she finds?

Jason must track down who is behind this deadly assassin. More importantly, he must uncover the secret that someone is trying to hide, lest history repeat itself. But Jason has no idea how much this secret could change the world forever.

Amazing how much story can be put into a book. I love this series so far a great deal. Leaned full on into the political intrigue and I adore stories that give a new and supernatural take on history of the world. I can't believe how much I enjoyed these first three books. Every chapter left me immediately wanting more. You simply have no choice but to say, "just one more chapter..." and then so much happens in that chapter too! There was only one time we switched povs that I was like no, go back! But no time is every wasted in these books. It is incredible how much the story is constantly moving forward. So much happens. In fact, there were like three places this book could've ended and I'd be delighted it wasn't over. I couldn't wait to see the twists play out and the aftermath of those twists. It was fun and exciting. And I love all the characters so much. I especially love all the diversity, mental health representation, and LGBT done right. They're just normal people like anyone else. Many authors don't handle it well.

My only issue was a troupe I saw coming that I really don't enjoy and it was frustrating, but unlike a lot of times this troupe is used, this actually served a purpose for multiple people's unique need for growth.

Just really loved this book and series so far.
