NOTHING TO LOSE

By no choice of his own, Harvey Sutton embarked on a life of crime. After spending years scrounging around in the gutter, he is seduced by a life-changing drug experience. A bad trip that pulls back the curtain of reality, leaving him with more questions than answers. The subsequent vision haunting his memory speaks to him, taking him on an odyssey of depravity, transgression, and violence.

Follow Harvey, crime by crime, as he tries to claw his way up from the slums. Will he find a way to get it together, or is he destined to continue on with a life of crime?

I've only recently become familiar with AB. I love his descriptions; very gross and and imaginative. And his stories are always delightfully wicked and horrible. But this one made me think. Harvey is an interesting protagonist, with no shortage of sin in his life (whether done by him or to him). But "A Life of Crime" actually made me wonder if his actions were his own. Very, very well written and performed. Bravo, AB!

I listened to this twice and probably will a 3rd time. I really enjoyed it.

The narration is fantastic

I loved this book. it's a quick read (listen in this case), it's raw, intoxicating, and thought provoking. At the end of the book the reader is asked if we choose our paths or if Fate does. This is after an onslaught of a story of a guy dealt more than a bad hand in life. Choosing a life of substance abuse and crime we follow Harvey as he accounts his life up until his last moments with his unofficial life partner. I was mesmerized and often backing up to double check I heard correctly. However, what really sold my love of this tale is the narrator, Chuck Burgee.

This whole review has circled in my head in his voice. Chuck understood this assignment and deserves accolades. He truly was Harvey. His performance alone sells this book, but the combination of Beauregard's story telling and Burgee's interpretation makes this worth many relistens.

Do we choose Fate or does Fate choose this amazing voice actor?
