A Man of Letters traces the life, career, and commentaries on controversial issues of Thomas Sowell over a period of more than four decades through his letters to and from family, friends, and public figures ranging from Milton Friedman to Clarence Thomas, David Riesman, Arthur Ashe, William Proxmire, Vernon Jordan, Charles Murray, Shelby Steele, and Condoleezza Rice. These letters begin with Sowell as a graduate student at the University of Chicago in 1960 and conclude with a reflective letter to his fellow economist and longtime friend Walter Williams in 2005.

A great opportunity to learn what formed Thomas Sowell along the way. Pretty cool to see the consistency of how he thinks and has thought over the years.

The book is excellent. It essentially reads like a biography. Letters about important points in his life in chronological order.

A different kind of biography, delivered through letter exchanges over the years. It shed some light on the man and his life journey . I enjoyed it very much .

Leon Nixon’s virtuoso narration lends emotion and perfect pitch to Sowell’s wry humor and at times elegiac letters. I’ll never forget his letter to his children.

Beautiful rendering of the inestimable Sowell
