A 1920s Historical Cozy Mystery

A Christmas wedding in an English castle. Tree trimming, carol singing, figgy pudding. What could be more wonderful than that? But then a dead body turns up and ruins all the fun.

England 1923. No sooner does Kitty Worthington arrive at Wynchcombe Castle for her sister’s holiday nuptials than she makes a gruesome discovery—the remains of a woman who perished long ago. Her death was not natural; she suffered a violent end. And there’s a mysterious connection to the Wynchcombe family that must be explained.

With the ceremony rapidly approaching, Kitty and her merry band of sleuths, comprised of her maid, lords, ladies, Scotland Yard’s finest Detective, Inspector Crawford, and Sir Winston, the family’s beloved basset hound, jump into the fray to solve the murder. For if they don’t, her sister’s wedding day may not only be ruined but might not take place at all.

A Murder of Christmas Past, Book 5 in The Kitty Worthington Mysteries, is another frolicking, historical cozy mystery filled with wily suspects, a sly villain, and an intrepid heroine, sure to win your heart. For lovers of Agatha Christie and Downton Abbey, alike.

My first introduction to the series and I found it enjoyable. It was a bit difficult keeping track of all the characters however, coming midway in the series. However, it’s peaked my interest to read a few more of her books.

An easy read

Says the woman who only watch fluff lighthearted TV series and movies. I’ve read all previous books and realize my eye rolling of the complete and utter unrealistic relationships and male characters hindered my enjoyment of the mystery.

The perfect feel is almost like a Stepford husband and family or fairytale culture. This is my last audiobook, I need slightly more realistic scenarios.

Too Much Fluff

This whole series is just mediocre at best. The themes aren’t innovative which is fine but the writing is very rudimentary and disjointed. Too many characters and random “twists” that go nowhere. Narrator isn’t great—not enough distinction between male and female characters and they all begin to blend into one toward the end. This series is fine if you’re looking for something to put on in the background for mindless listening.
