Mixing Mystery and Romance in a Fizzy 1930s Cocktail!

A high-society summer. A missing ring. A romance put to the test.

Henrietta Von Harmon thought accepting Inspector Clive Howard's proposal was the hard part—until she discovers he's heir to a North Shore fortune and she's expected to spend the summer at his family's sprawling Winnetka estate. While Clive returns to an important case in Chicago, Henrietta must navigate the treacherous waters of high society under the withering gaze of his mother, who clearly thinks her son could do better.

Finding herself more at ease with the servants than the family, Henrietta becomes intrigued when an elderly housemaid claims her precious ring has been stolen. But what begins as a simple mystery to prove herself useful spirals into something far more sinister.

As Henrietta uncovers long-buried family secrets—including shocking revelations about her own mother's past—she and Clive must confront hard truths about the worlds that divide them. And when danger from their past resurfaces in the last place they expect, Henrietta must decide: Can she truly belong in Clive's world? And more urgently—will she survive long enough to find out?

A Ring of Truth is the second novel in the bestselling Henrietta and Inspector Howard Series of romantic mysteries set in mid-1930s Chicago, by award-winning author Michelle Cox.

The action of A Ring of Truth picks up exactly where the previous book, A Girl Like You, ended. Our two main protagonists, the young, poor, beautiful Henrietta and the serious Inspector Clive Howard are head-over-heels in love, they get engaged and it's time to meet each other’s families. However, when Henrietta learns about a missing house servant, she can't resist a good mystery and she is pulled into another dangerous situation. Add to that the fact that her own mother appears to keep dark secrets, Hen and Clive have to unravel more than one mystery.

Award-winning actor and narrator Jane Entwistle returns once again to the Henrietta and Inspector Howard series with another excellent performance. She reads beautifully and manages to instantly pull the listener into this enthralling tale. With a clear talent for voices, young and old, male or female, Jane Entwistle is the perfect narrator for this great romantic mystery.

If you are in the mood for a cosy, but immersive historical novel with great characters, A Ring of Truth by Michelle Cox might be just the one you were looking for. I can't wait to see what's next for our heroes in the upcoming books...

very good narration of a weak story. this was not a mystery, but a romance.

great narration of a weak story.

The first book in this series was okay but not great. I thought I'd give the series another chance, but the inner monologues and dialogs in this series are so badly written and exhausting to listen to. There's almost no action - it's all crowded out by inane ramblings by the two main characters. There's nothing here.

This is exhausting!
