The forebear of the modern detective story finds the famous sleuth in the employ of Scotland Yard, investigating the murder of rambling drunk Enoch Drebber. With his eloquent Victorian drawl, performer Peter Mesney portrays the "consulting detective" in all his idiosyncratic glory - Holmes' blunt mannerisms, peculiar interests, and staggering attention to detail all stand in contrast to the bemused astonishment with which Watson greets his new friend. Mesney's knack for character acting is evident as his voice carries listeners from the working class parlance of a London police unit to the rugged frontiers of America’s Wild West.

I went in knowing very little about the actual Sherlock Holmes stories aside from what i've seen on TV/movies and i'm not really sure how i feel. I was confused about the transition from Holmes to the killer's point of view but that could have been more from me being distracted. I don't know, the jury is still out but i didn't hate it so a solid three stars, maybe four if i re-listen and pick up on things i missed.
