But the Sarmatians are proud, and they are cast from the ice itself. They were trained from young to ride and fight and kill on its slippery surface. They cannot lose.

Depressing & Grim

The world he described was so grim including relationships, weather, and lack of foodstuffs. Expectations were high and rewards of any kind for the Sarmatians were nonexistent. No wonder these tribes did not survive….if the story was near to truth.
But, of course, we can never know.
