Oliver:

So here I am, about to ask my buddy Leo if he'll pretend to be my spouse for a few weeks until Mom buzzes off. My mother, the matchmaker...I just never thought she'd turn that gaze on me.

Thank God he needs the money, or else... well, no "or else". Leo's a great guy. He'd do this for me, money or not. I know he would. It's the whole reason I'm asking him and not some random guy off the street.

There's definitely no other reason. Sure, he's hot, but I like my freedom.

Leo:

Oliver is...look, he's a great guy, but he's not exactly anyone I could picture settling down in the next four decades. He likes to party. He likes to play. I want something more solid than that in my life.

Not that this whole marriage thing is anything but a sham. We're just doing it to get by his mom so he can be left to enjoy himself in peace. I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure how far we should take it. Should I move in with him? Get rings? Talk about our honeymoon?

I don't know what I'm doing, I just hope this doesn't ruin our friendship or...change it, somehow.

This work contains some seriously sultry scenes. This audiobook is intended for those ages 18 and older since it has graphic depiction of m/m sex scenes within. Adults only.

David Loan did a wonderful job narrating this story.

I was so worried that the story was going to be super angsty; thankfully it wasn't.

The two main characters started out as casual friends but over time they developed a strong connection. Oliver has an extremely over bearing mother who has made his life miserable. In an attempt to free himself from her scrutiny he asks Leo to "marry" him. This fake marriage quickly turns into a real relationship. As you would suspect Oliver's mom doesn't take this well.

Marriage of convience?

The story was good, the characters likeable and relatable but all of it was ruined by the narration that sounded and enunciated like "Data" from Star Trek! Was it my kindle? I had just finished another audible book and it sounded great! So the story is worth the time but buy the ebook!

What a great story and interesting characters that made the story unusual but with a great ending.

Vegas anyone?

This story is about Oliver the playboy and his good friend Leo who is looking for more of a stable relationship. Leo who is a little conflicted (doesn’t want to ruin their friendship) agrees in helping Oliver out by pretending to his husband, to keep his mom from playing matchmaker and meddling in his life. I enjoyed the story, but this was really hard to listen to with this narrator.

Cute story

Did the story keep me engaged: reasonably - I find if I'm not engaged with the narrator, I struggle to get into the story.
Were there any parts I found annoying: not with the story
Did I feel an emotional connection to the characters: not really ... but again .. the narration
Would I listen to it again: I think i'd prefer to read it

Premise of the story is entertaining enough, especially with Oliver's overbearing and controlling mother in the mix, but the "magic" was missing from this one to make it a great listen for me.

The narrator has tried to bring life to the characters and story but the bulk of the narration felt flat and I wasn't a fan of the sound of the voice he gave Leo. (sorry!)

not my favorite narrator
