Jiran's escape from the Numbered did not lead to freedom; it was a one-way ticket to the fourth tier Arena: a place from which no one has ever emerged.

Even the vaunted Remalon have failed to conquer its mysteries. Here, survival has only one currency: brutal adaptation. That suits Jiran just fine. To return to Mayalyn's side and keep his promise to Olive, he will embrace the Arena's savagery. He will forge his powers into something unseen in all of Madra's history.

While his fight for survival unfolds, the Finlest Empire teeters on the edge of collapse. The emperors have vanished after their battle against the Graymin King, allowing the rot at the empire's core to spread. With its focus to the north, a hidden conspiracy makes its move for dominance.

Jiran's return could save his home, but it could also unleash a catastrophe far greater than the Graymin. By surviving the unsurvivable, he has proven to Madra that she no longer needs to pull her punches. This time, the horrors he must overcome will have the potential to follow him home. When Jiran finally claws his way back to a shattered empire, will he arrive as its savior, or as the harbinger of its ultimate doom?

Repeating old formulas, this book brings nothing new to the table. If you like the older books you'll enjoy this one. Although if you are expecting any feel good moments, this one is severely lacking. None of my favorite characters really show up this story and the dryad girl is never even mentioned. The girl on the cover(princess) doesn't even see him till the very end of the story. But like I said, you know this author and how he writes plots. This is more of the same and is generally a good, fun read. The epilogue introduces a very cliché cultivation trope I mildly dislike, which spells much annoyance to come.

I didn’t even try to listen to later parts, the story is one of my top 5 but story’s with romance and lots of female characters needs a dual cast, listening to men pretend to do women voices really makes me cringe and lose immersion. The voice acting is good has lots of variety for male characters,

I really enjoyed this book. I was a bit hesitant at first because the cover art suggested a pure romance harem story, but the actual story is much more balanced. The harem elements are a continuation from the previous book: the main character already has one girlfriend, and the princess’s relationship has been building. In this book, he simply accepts his feelings for her and lets her know. These dynamics are handled thoughtfully and aren’t the main focus.

I loved watching the main character grow and make choices to handle challenges; his progression is fun and engaging. My only small critique is that whenever he faces a problem he seems unable to handle, he tends to gain a new ability and quickly overcomes it. It works occasionally, but it happens frequently enough that it felt a little repetitive.

The narration by J.S. Arquin was fabulous — I enjoyed every minute of listening. Overall, a fantastic installment, and I’m looking forward to the next book!
