Full disclosure: I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Unexpected Destiny picks up immediately after the first book ends. A new antagonist is unveiled. Old locations are revisited and new locations are introduced.
Some sequels can be worse than the preceding books, but this one was just as good as the first one. It actually felt like a continuation, like taking a restroom break before hitting the continue button again while binge watching a series.
Kyren plays a more prominent role in this book than in the first one. We meet Alice's mom, but not the rest of her family.
New unexpected allies are introduced. The ending of the first book is also explained.
The pacing in this book did seem to slow down a little compared to the first one; which is a good thing. The ending sets up the story in the third book in the trilogy. From the foreshadowing, at least one large scale fight is expected. If you liked the first book in the trilogy, you will like this one as well.
I suggest reading the first book before reading this one as things will make more sense.

Enjoyed the narrators performance in this book as well; the characters voices were clear and easy to understand.

Altered Destiny is an interesting continuation of the series. More of the same great crew from the first book, plus a couple surprising additions. I really enjoyed the character interactions and how the author introduced the new team members. Also, the author left enough unanswered questions to make me want to listen to book 3 for answers, but I still felt satisfied that this book contained a complete story. The narrator does an amazing job with this book as well, and he nailed the accents perfectly. Overall, this was a great listen and I’m looking forward to getting my answers in book three.

I did not love this. It was fine. The story was ok and since this is the second book the characters are more fleshed out, even the ones we are seeing from a different perspective. I called the first book 'ordinary scifi' and that's how I feel about this one as well. The premise of the series so far and how the books relate to one another, is a good concept, I just didnt particularly care for the story. I had to listen in short bursts cause I couldnt keep concentrated on it for more than about 15 minutes at a time.

Give this a shot if you like the SyFy Channel original movies.
Give this series a shot if you like alternate realities/timelines.

Never a dull moment, the action just keeps coming in this book. With this second book in the series, we get more battles, more gadgets, and some more wild aliens. But I was happy that our characters got to slow down on occasion so that we could get some more info into their personal lives/motives. I felt more of a connection to the characters than I did in the first book. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series.
