In the fifth book in the series, Anne's own true love, Gilbert Blythe, is finally a doctor, and, in the sunshine of the old orchard among their dearest friends, they are about to speak their vows. Soon, the happy couple will be bound for a new life together in their own dream house on the misty purple shores of Four Winds Harbor.

But a new life means fresh problems to solve - and fresh surprises. As Anne and Gilbert begin to build that new life, some of those problems and surprises come in the form of their new neighbors: Captain Jim, the lighthouse attendant with sad stories about the sea, Miss Cornelia Bryant, the direct woman who still manages to speak from her heart, and Leslie Moore, the tragically beautiful girl who intrigues Anne....

Great story. Narration that enhanced the story without overpowering it. I really enjoyed this book!!

Lovely!!

Of all the books in this series so far, I think this one has even richer character development than the others. Outstanding. The setting is richly woven into the story. It is a beautiful piece of literature that I didn't want to come to an end.

Incredible characters

This story of Anne and Gilbert's first few years of married life is delightful. Her new friends in the town where she will spend the rest of her life, Leslie, Miss Cornelia, Captain Jim, her faithful servant Susan, make their first appearances here and become beloved to us, as Anne settles into her new role as wife and mother, continued in the final 3 books of the series.

Another reviewer complained that it was mostly about her friendships, no mention or description of their wedding night etc. But it should be noted that this book was first published in 1917!!! Polite society didn't even mention things like pregnancy back then never mind any description of details of a couple's intimate life! So enjoy this series, this book included, for what it is: a lovely, timeless, sweet period piece set over a century ago, about a charming, sweet, smart, loving girl growing wiser and deeper as the decades pass.

I liked the reader here. I'm picky, and there were quite a few different versions for this book. I listened to each sample and read the reviews to boot. This performance was my favorite. It did not didappoint! She added a good level of expression, gave distinctive voices to the characters, and her pacing was good. A very enjoyable listen! ....Onward to "Anne of Ingleside"!

Beautiful story beautifully performed
