Twelve years ago, NASA researcher Peter Abbott disappeared while on a mission to study a meteor that had crashed on an uncharted island in the South Pacific.

His wife, Claire Hamilton, a scientist herself, picked up the pieces of her broken life and started over. Now a professor of astrobiology at the University of Washington, Claire has remarried and is raising six-year-old twins with her husband, Jack.

But her idyllic life is shattered once again when NASA shows up at Claire's door with incredible news - Peter is alive, and they want her to join a mission to rescue him from the island. And the most stunning revelation - it wasn't a meteor that Peter had gone to study, as they had told her a dozen years ago, but an extraterrestrial artifact.

Torn between the love for her family and the prospect of being part of the most important discovery in human history, Claire struggles with the decision join the dangerous mission. Meanwhile, sinister forces begin aligning to prevent her from rescuing Peter or uncovering the mystery of the alien object.

And as the danger mounts, she will make a shocking discovery, one with the potential to alter the course of her life-and of mankind - forever.

It started really cool and I enjoyed it. It took me a day and a half to finish the book. It's started off unique, different, fun, exciting and it turned into the TV show Lost. Half the book was set on an island with an time anomaly just like the show Lost. The major character was supposed to be this genius female scientist, mother, wife, widow and she turned out to be kinda selfish and ungrateful yet the heroine of the story. The ending was quite painful.

Started great. Ended bad.

The protagonist was talking about how much she loved her kids and all of that... Why did you make the decisions you made if you loved them so much? If this was a Reddit IATA, almost everyone here would be the AH.
How she felt and what she thought was unnecessarily repeated several times,
The end made almost no send and it was really empty and made almost no sense. Several plot holes.
Everything interesting happened during the last 40 - 30 mins.
I wouldn't call it sci-fi tbh.

Unnecessary mom's angst

Too little sci fi, and too much drama. The characters had no real development, with contradicting personality traits,to keep the storyline going.

Moral compass fluctuating all the time

I enjoyed the concept and it was well written, but I was disappointed in the ending. It was as if the author was not sure how to wrap up the story. Anticlimactic, there was so much more that could have been done with the ending. The narrator was great.

Mostly well written and excellent narration…

A solid offering in all aspects. Abit SciFi, a bit spooky, and solid storytelling and performance. Took a while to get started, but well worth the credit, and the time. Recommended.

Solid SciFi with abit of creep added
