The first book in David Moody's epic Autumn zombie series - available in audio for the first time. Contains bonus short stories not included in the original release.
In less than twenty-four hours a vicious viral epidemic destroys virtually all of the population. Billions are killed. There are no symptoms and no warnings; within moments of infection each victim suffers a violent and agonising death. Only a handful of survivors remain.
And then, animated by "phase two" of the contagion, the dead begin to rise.
At first slow, blind, dumb and lumbering, the bodies soon regain their most basic senses and abilities... sight, hearing, locomotion... As well as the instinct toward aggression and violence.
Held back only by the restraints of their rapidly decomposing flesh, the dead have only one single goal - to destroy the sole remaining attraction in the silent, lifeless world: those who have survived.
Without ever using the 'Z' word, Autumn offers a new perspective on the traditional zombie story. There's no flesh eating, no fast-moving corpses, no gore for gore's sake. Combining the atmosphere and tone of George Romero's classic living dead films with the attitude and awareness of 28 Days (and Years) later, this horrifying novel is filled with relentless cold, dark fear.

Critic reviews
"The best survival horror since Richard Matheson's I am Legend" —Wayne Simmons, author of Flu and Plastic Jesus
"With Autumn, David Moody paints a picture of a marvellously bleak dystopian future where the world belongs to the hungry dead. It's the creepy start to a compelling series." Jonathan Maberry, multiple Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Patient Zero
"Autumn is genuinely creepy, an atmospheric study of what happens when the dead come back - and what we have to do just to survive." David Wellington, author of Monster Island

Autumn is absolutely fantastic! It had me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next. Very strong, relatable characters. It is very easy to picture yourself right in the story with them. A different style of "zombie" compared to typical American styles. It was quite refreshing. I would definitely recommend to everyone. I look forward to the next book in the series!

When 99% of the world’s population suddenly drops dead of an unknown disease, a small handful of survivors gather in a community center before three of them, Michael, Carl, and Emma, decide to head out and try to build a life in what’s left of the world.
The three stumble upon an isolated farmhouse where, hopefully, they can live out the rest of their lives in peace, away from the dead, who have recently begun to get up and move about. You know what all those other zombie novels fail to mention, the thing that really makes Moody’s novel sing? The silence. And it’s when Michael and the others begin the process of living day to day, the noise of their activity begins to draw the dead closer and closer.
Moody’s got a brilliant idea with this novel, the first in a series I’m going to be diving more into very soon, and he’s definitely brought some new ideas to a very very tired old genre.
The audiobook, read by professional narrator Aubrey Parsons, was a moody, engaging listen, driven by Parsons’ warm voice and his ability to give each character their own personality.
Summer may be my favorite season, but Autumn is my new favorite zombie novel and I’m eager to see what happens next.
