How many lives is a cover-up worth?

When a bridge collapses and kills six people, National Park Service Special Agent Kurt Hunter is drawn into a tangled web of political machinations. With the bridge debris scheduled to be turned into an artificial reef in the park, Kurt and Justine are in a race against time to find the party responsible.

But things are not as simple as they appear, and soon powerful political figures turn the case into a power struggle to save one of the country's biggest universities.

I love the Backwater series by Steven Becker. This book is both a standalone listen and part of a series. Backwater Pass has mention of a few events from the previous books that only add to the enjoyment of this book. Kurt Hunter is the main character in this series. I love how Justine, Allie, Martinez all have cameo appearances in this book and add to the depth of character portrayal. Kurt has developed a tolerance for his boss Martinez, while his relationship with Justine is moving to the next level. As a part-time father to Allie, its neat seeing that dynamic. Kurt has a panache for finding trouble, and is in the form of concrete for this book. I love how the author writes the imagery and has attention to detail in regards in boating and diving. Paul J McSorley performs this book with the perfect emotions. His voice is so smooth, yet he adds so much to the story with how he says it, and not only what he says. I find his voice is perfect for the action, the humor, and the other scenes as well as narration. The twists in the book are awesome!

Great Story, Great Narration!

This audiobook focused on the possible cause of a true-life event. I wasn't aware of this tragedy so I headed for google for more information. Steven Becker took this event and created a fictional reason for what happened which made for a fascinating read. I'm enjoying the way Martinez and Hunter have to get along even though they both have different priorities when it comes to their jobs.

Becker's writing is very appealing to me as I love fishing and being on the water. Hunter's relationship with his daughter is very sweet to read about.

Paul J. McSorley is such a good narrator. He has a distinct voice that goes well with characters that spend a lot of time in the rustic outdoors. His female voices are well done and his voice for Hunter's daughter conveys both youth and her gender. Becker and McSorley are a great combination as they have proven with four other excellent series.

I wholeheartedly recommend Backwater Pass if you enjoy mysteries!

This continues the adventures of National Park Service Special Agent Kurt Hunter. The dumping of the concrete in the National Park gives Kurt the opening to investigate. He finds that short cuts were taken in the building of the bridge and that the idea for an artificial reef is simply a way to hide the fact. He finds many people who don't want the truth to be found and has to work around people in power to track down the persons responsible.

This series is outstanding and continues to entertain. The stories are well written. The narration is exceptional.
