Two people investigate the mysteries buried deep in the bayou in this standalone classic from New York Times bestselling author Jana DeLeon

Bodyguard Brian Marcentel knew Justine Chatry had a job to do, but so did he. He’d been hired to keep her safe—from whatever lurked behind the walls of a long-neglected mansion. And yet, the beautiful researcher insisted on helping him investigate every suspicious noise and following him through the murky bayou as he tracked down trespassers. All of that paled in comparison, though, to his greatest challenge: trying to resist her when the fear took over and she looked to him for protection.

I liked the book, overall, but I felt like it was done in a rush or something. Certain parts felt abrupt and the narrator just wasn't that great. Not enough emotion I think. I liked the atmospheric idea of rain, graveyards, old mansion, but it seemeda bit forced. I'm a sucker for a decent mystery and happy endings (sorry if thats a spoiler), so I still enjoyed it.

decent story concept

I like mystery. I didn’t like her poor sister having a breakdown. I wish there had more description about the house.

That it’s like her other books. Like the suspense .

No pauses after periods. It all felt like one giant run-on sentence. The story wasn't too bad, but the lack of voice inflections and pauses made it feel too rushed and robotic (like AI). Then the secret doors that open with a click of a hidden switch, not believable.

Read too fast

The narration was OK but not great. It the first time I really appreciated the difference between being a reader and the level of acting required to excel at this.

If I’d realized this was essentially a part two of The Secret of Cypriere Bayou story that I enjoyed, I would have purchased it immediately after finishing.

When I read the description, I was a bit confused and was worried I might be buying the same book that has some updates, but it is a completely new book with the same place, people and some new.

Great story, really glad I made the purchase. I enjoyed just as much as the 1st.
