Canada is blessed with thousands of kilometers of empty roads which seem to wind on forever through forested hills and between still blue lakes. What better way to explore them than by riding 40-year-old Italian motorbikes, famous for their dodgy electrics and sparse dealer network? Forty-year-old bikes, aged rider, thousands of kilometers of virtually unserviced empty roads in the middle of bear-, wolf-, and blackfly-infested wilderness - what could possibly go wrong?

As someone who’s listened to more than my share of travel books—especially motorcycle travel—I can honestly say this was my first encounter with Nick Adams’ work, and it hooked me instantly.

Beyond the Coffee Shop isn’t a long book, but that’s part of its magic. It never drags. Every chapter pops with sharp, vivid storytelling and that unmistakable sense of freedom you get when someone truly loves what they’re doing. Nick’s ability to blend clean, engaging narrative with moments of pure prose makes the experience both grounded and poetic.

Riding a 50-year-old Moto Guzzi through the northern wilderness isn’t just an act of nostalgia—it’s an act of adventure. You can feel the grit, the solitude, and the quiet satisfaction of keeping that machine alive mile after mile. His mechanical ingenuity alone could fill a book, but what really stands out is the heart behind it—the reflection, humor, and love of the journey itself.

And to top it off, Nick’s narration is as eloquent and steady as his throttle hand. It’s the kind of listening experience that leaves you wanting to follow him right into the next story—which I have, a dozen more times.

This book contains some very nicely written ramblings from a man who refuses to invest in loctite.

A pleasant memoir

An entertaining ride-along with Nick Adams, as he explores rural Ontario and Quebec, as well as Labrador, on classic Moto Guzzi motorcycles. The tale is delivered by the author himself, in a conversational manner, as if we were discussing his latest adventure at the nearest Tim Hortons.

Thoroughly recommended, especially for fellow motorcyclists!
