Amazing! This book fits hand-in-glove with Nick Adams’s earlier work—Beyond the Coffee Shop, Beyond the Bypass, and Life in the Trenches—and confirms something rare among motorcycle travel writers: every book deepens your appreciation for the last.

Yes, this is a motorcycle travel book—but it’s also a study of people, place, kindness, and attention. Adams writes with descriptive, sometimes gently poetic prose that never drags. You’re carried across northern Ontario with an ease that’s absorbing and, at times, unexpectedly soothing. It’s funny, too—quietly observant humor that comes from seeing the world clearly and generously. Who can turn away from that?

What sets this book apart is how personal it is without ever being indulgent. Adams brings his real life forward—his family, his pets, his traveling companions—and those relationships matter. Norm, the dependable riding partner who’ll cross a thousand miles to rescue a stranded friend, isn’t just a character; he’s proof of the book’s underlying thesis: the people you meet along the way are the journey. Adams even captures a perfect travel truth—that it’s often better to break down in the middle of nowhere than in more populated places, because remote people still show up for each other.

As an audiobook, it’s exemplary. Adams’s narration is impeccable—calm, warm, precise—and adds another layer of intimacy to the stories. It feels less like being read to and more like sitting across from a friend who knows how to tell a story well—and when to let it breathe.

This book does everything a great motorcycle travel story should—and quite a bit more. It’s thoughtful, humane, quietly inspiring, and never dull. If you want to feel good about the world and the people in it, start here.
