When destiny is involved, there are no chances.
On the night of Graelyn's upcoming birthday, he and his Dawnborn lover, Myra, planned to escape his tyrant father.
However, the night of their departure, a Duskborn assassin comes looking for Gray even as an insatiable, unknown Hunger blooms within him. Attacked and framed, they flee for their lives, only to be captured by orc pirates. They encounter an orcish druid, who has dreamed of a figure shrouded in darkness—a prophecy foretelling the salvation or ruination of the land of Uncanny.
Still tracked by an assassin, can Gray and Myra clear their names, or when Gray’s true heritage is revealed will they be hunted forever?

“Birthright: Night Kissed, Book 1” was, for me, a new author, and two new Voice Actors. Happily, I can report that I enjoyed the efforts of all three! Whew!! The female narrator in particular was terrific; the male narrator reminded me very much of Tom North, with a pleasant British accent.
I became nervous early on when the story revealed MC Graelyn to be the thirdborn son of a Duke; disdained by his father and his eldest brother, the heir. A different book about a thirdborn son (by a different author) was very disappointing, and was a rare DNF for me, and I feared Birthright might follow the same path.
No - this book is entirely different; the MC is likable and the story takes a very interesting and unexpected turn from the historical western path of a thirdborn son (historically, the eldest son inherited the father’s title, the second son was sent to the Church, and the third son was sent to the military to forge his own story).
The women in Gray’s life, elf Myrena, Duskborn Nystra and Orc Jocelyn, each have different personalities and are very interesting. To say they don’t all immediately like each other would be an understatement! Various descriptions of places throughout the story are very well-done: the ship “Laura’s Envy”, the slave encampment, and the strangely deserted hamlet, for example. Battles and one-on-one fights are also written very well.
I’m happy to have found this new author and narrators, and I hope they team together soon for a sequel to “Birthright”!
