True crime icon Ann Rule presents a “must-read” (People) New York Times bestseller—and inspiration behind the Lifetime movie A House on Fire—following a woman whose apparent perfect life hides a harrowing and deadly madness.

Debora Green, a doctor and mother in a picturesque and exclusive Kansas town, seems to have the perfect life with her own medical practice, a handsome physician husband, and three lovely children. It seems like a horribly tragic accident when a raging fire destroys her home and takes two lives. But a trail of clues leads investigators to an unthinkable conclusion.

In this “tour de force from America’s best true crime writer” (Kirkus Reviews), Ann Rule reveals the disturbing secrets—including infidelity, suicide, revenge, and murder—hiding beneath a façade of paradise in the American heartland.©1998 Ann Rule; (P)1998 Simon & Schuster, Inc.

I loved reading the book about 5 years ago, could not put it down. I decided to listen to the audio and found it equally as compelling, listening to the entire book within a couple of days. Great listen!

Loved this book, audio equally as good!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t believe how such a smart educated woman could allow her life to crash the way Debra’s did. I couldn’t wait to find out how it ended and then it felt so anticlimactic. I liked the book but didn’t love it.

Page turner !

Although this was not my favorite of Ann Rule's, it was really well done. She has a way of getting you into the psychopathy of the "bad guy" or in this case the "bad girl" and I think that is necessary for true crime novels. Definitely would recommend it.

Worth the read

When will the narrators learn these are not plays. They are not to be “performed” I have been reading books for almost 70 years without anyone’s help. Just read the durn thing to me and let me determine voice inflections.

Stop performance
