Meanwhile, the new vicar in town is not feeling welcome. Disturbing events seem designed to scare him away.

Critic reviews

Bolton knows precisely how to ratchet up the tension and tell a cracking story
Bolton has already made a considerable name for herself with her well-crafted, original and spooky crime thrillers
Frisson-generating... dark, psychological crime
Blood Harvest is the book I wish I could have written. Heart-stopping, bone-chilling, and deliciously written. S.J. Bolton is a thriller star (CHELSEA CAIN)
Bolton excels... a mystery that twines its way to the secretive, rotten heart of the village
If you prefer your thrillers to be gripping not grisly, Bolton is a name to remember . . . spine-tingling tale
Bolton expertly balances the gothic supernatural elements with a crackling psychological plot, leaving readers breathless until the last page
Part Wicker Man, part League of Gentlemen... Moody and creepy, with a killer twist
Spine-tingling suspense! S.J. Bolton ups the chills and thrills factor with her compelling blend of ghostly possibilities layered upon very real world crimes
S J Bolton's frission-generating Blood Harvest is a satisfyingly atmospheric 500-plus pages; a clever synthesis of two sure-fire strategies: the slow burning mystery...and the dark psychological crime narrative.

I really enjoyed this story, but the reader really got on my nerves. There are a few male characters in this story who play important parts, and the lovely, bright female voice makes them sound silly, especially since the reader really tries to make her voice sound dim. It would have been easier to ignore if she'd just used her normal voice. Better yet, the story should have been read by a male, as female characters generally suffer less by being read by a male than the other way around.

But reading aside, great story, Bolton at her best.

Great plot, not so well read

Dark haunting book. That has you on the edge of your seat. Great narrator, she really does the different characters well. Couldn't stop listening till it ended.

Fave author

Creepy as heck. Reminded me of classic horror movies set in creepy country settings where, for sure, there would be 'something nasty in the woodshed'. However, twists and turns abound and lead to a satisfying ending, but hungry for more. Great prequel to the Detective Lacey Flint series. The Narrator is great! Having lived in England most of my life, I'm impressed with her ability to narrate all the different accents and flip from one to the other with ease.

Loved it!
