The devil whispers in my ear, “Your mother can never know about this… it will kill her if she ever finds out.” Fear quakes in my six-year-old body. Shame saturates me like a soggy mist. I draw an X across my heart, cup my hand around his ear and whisper, “Cross my heart and hope to die! I promise I will never tell!” I am VOICELESS.

I am fifteen and death lurks on the horizon. And I want it so bad… want to be gone from this jacked-up life! Want to be free of the beast lurking in the corners of my heart! I’m tired of running and lying and hiding!

And then Jesus calls my name… Oh my, He’s a breath of fresh air. His Bible stories are amazing. And He’s promising me new life. Can I really have new life? How can I trust God with the evil haunting me? Where was He when I was sexually abused? How can I know He won’t fail me again?
